How do I know which type of service my dog will learn best at?

We offer three main learning environments: Group lessons, Private lessons, and board and train.

Group Lessons

While many trainers may hold classes that are very large, we do not believe this is the best learning environment, especially for owners with disabilities looking for highly trained service dogs. Our average class size is 4 teams, with a maximum of 6 teams. Each class is six weeks long and each team will be at the exact same point in their training every week. These classes take place in a variety of environments, depending on the what we are learning. If you need specific accommodations to make this class environment work, please let us know during your Initial Evaluation. Group lessons can be most helpful for training obedience, specifically for service dogs in training.

Private Lessons

While Group lessons can be extremely beneficial in some cases, it is not always the case. However, that is where Private Lessons can help fill the gap. These lessons are one-on-one. The trainer may opt to bring a demo dog to demonstrate what is being taught or a neutral dog that can help us work through an added distraction with a well trained canine counterpart. Like group lessons, these may be done online or in person, depending on the material we are learning. We may go over things like recovering from reactivity, managing "bad" behaviors with behavior modification, or task training for a service dog. At some point, all dogs in my service dog program will have gone through both private and group lessons. Contact us to discuss whether group training or private lessons will be more beneficial for your short term and long term goals. As always, if you have any accommodations that are needed due to a disability, please let us know so that we can set the lesson up for success.

Board and Train

This option is used a bit more sparsely and is usually reserved for my distance learning clients. Please note, this option is only available after direct approval from our trainer, Rachell. Board and Trains exist for me to take over the reigns of training, temporarily. I will teach your dog the things we discuss during your Initial Evaluation prior to boarding with me. My board and trains are a minimum of two weeks long, but depending on your goals, may go on longer than that. You will receive one weekly training video and daily photo updates throughout their stay with our trainer. At the end of their stay, you will rejoin us and we will participate in training your dog together for the full day. Additionally, you will receive up to 4 private lessons ($600 value) to use to brush up on the things we trained during your board and train during the next six months. These lessons can be done virtually or in person, depending on the material.

Are you still unsure which is best for you?

Schedule an Initial Evaluation now with our Trainer to discuss your goals and any questions or concerns you have. Rachell can advise you about which learning environment will lead to the best success for your team.
